The re-designed Audion Black Shadow 2 mono-blocks feature the mighty Single ended 845 output valve with no (Zero) negative feedback which has been upgraded with an extra buffer stage, improved mains and output transformers, slow start HT to protect the valve life and better components – couple that to a large polypropylene capacitor power supply and large bypass and decoupling capacitors you are guaranteed fast and fluid transient response.. This amplifier is hand built and hard wired using solid silver 5 *9’s in most of the audio path (except the output transformers, input rca’s, speaker binding posts and tube bases).
This massive directly heated 845 triode produces 25 substantial Class “A” watts which are suitable to drive the large majority of loudspeakers with incredible grip, agility, dynamics and realism. There’s a wonderful sense of effortlessness to the sound and few amplifiers can match the low frequency tonality and flow.

The all new MK2 Black Shadow features new internal chassis layout which improves build and component layout and relationship.
Internal magnetic shielding around the transformers reduces an already quiet amplifier to an even lower level of noise. This means a blacker soundstage allowing you to hear even deeper into the music and the delicate low levels details that were previously masked, now come forward.

The Black Shadow 2 draws out the harmonic richness of music and its natural sense of dynamic range. This is the kind of sound that makes you argue over pianists, not cables, because it perfectly shows the playing dynamics of different virtuosos. If you have an opinion about Haifetz vs. Ricci, or Casals vs. Rostopovich, or even Argerich vs. Barenboim vs. Brendel, the Black Shadow amp will be your best friend. If you ‘like a bit of Mozart in the evening’, this is probably not for you. The Audion’s unforced dynamic shading and ability to move from fff to ppp without a hesitation makes music something that must be engaged with, not played in the background.

The Black Shadow 845 hard wired (point to point) Single Ended amplifier comes with Shuguang 845’s as standard but can also be supplied with a choice of 845 tubes upon request. This amp will work with most speakers over of 83 – 4db efficiency. The Black Shadow Mk2 delivers 25 watts of pure Class “A” power into 8 ohms The amp has both 4 and 8 ohm outputs.
Having a volume control on the front of both mono-blocks and mono inputs on the rear means that a pre-amplifier is not necessary with this unit if you only use one line level source, but we do recommend that a pre-amp is used. The Black Shadow is auto biased which means that it will accept almost any 845 tube (The amps are supplied with Shuguang 845’s . This amplifier is meticulously hand built and hard wired point to point by our artisans.

To provide the fastest transient response possible, solid-state rectification is used, and the design and its implementation ensures phase coherent harmonic structure throughout the frequency spectrum. The 845 output tubes used are well within their specified performance envelope to ensure low distortion and optimum sound quality, as well as extended tube life. .
Our output transformers are wound in-house to our exacting standards and many of the components are either made by us or specifically for us. We use Shuguang 845’s and NOS E182CC & NOS Russian 6H23N. The Black Shadows are designed for difficult loads, loads of power and yet very musical.
Many of our high end products are offered with bespoke options, in fact many of our customers who order these products have a good idea what they want in their amplifiers in terms of final sound and final look. So with that in mind, we can pretty well tailor the high end amplifiers to suit your requirements. You can of course go with our recommendation based on your system.
We offer our stock level Black Shadow 2 with 3 upgrade options (which are available on all of our amplifiers), that being Insignia, Excelsior and Signature Reference classes.
This is a great starting point and one that many people opt for as it is an “off the shelf” package. Often however when tailoring your amp for your musical tastes you may wish to change the stock upgrade component for something that you know works for your ears.

We have the ability to gold and silver plate, powder coat and produce via cnc machinery a variety of looks and finishes. Product options for Black Shadow 2 mono block power amplifiers include 845 valve varieties options as well as mono 48 way stepped attenuator, better signal capacitors, better power supply capacitors and even more silver wire for the full audio path and now we can offer WBT Nextgen RCA and binding post terminals, as well as output transformer options including full silver options and various boutique valve options.
Our Black Shadow 2 amplifiers come available with 3 upgrade options starting from our Standard model we go up a level to Insignia Class and then on to Excelsior class and finally the ultimate Signature reference.
Each class has selected components designed to enhance performance, presence and definition.
The upgrade options are only available on a new build amplifier and are not retro fittable. The amplifier chassis will carry distinguishing marks and badging to determine the level.
All the options are based on a standard amplifier, and use the very finest selected components chosen form Britain, Europe or the US.
All options carry a lifetime guarantee and a certificate of authenticity.

We offer 3 upgrade classes for the Golden Night. The upgrade classes are
Insignia Class which uses a full silver wired audio path, better graded components again in the audio path, tantalum resistors in the critical places and WBT binding posts.
Excelsior Class uses the same as above but with the inclusion of Teflon/Tin foil V-caps, a 43 way Stepped attenuator, better power supply capacitors, better bias supply capacitors and WBT RCA’s and binding posts.
Signature Reference is our highest level offering completely silver wired, silver foil in oil capacitors, silver binding posts and RCA terminals silver wound output transformers (both primary and secondaries), choice of output valves, etc etc.
There are options on both Insignia and Excelsior classes for solid silver wound secondaries or primaries and secondaries on the output transformer.

The sound was a contrast, detailed and extremely musical. There was no slowness and desire to lull the listener, for which I dislike for a directly heated triode single end.
