Audion Sterling power amplifier range
The Audion Sterling Range consists of Single Ended Stereo & Stereo Integrated, Parallel Single Ended and Push-Pull Mono-block power amplifiers, with a choice of EL34, KT88, KT120 and KT150 valves. With power ranging from 12 watts per channel pure class A from our basic entry level Mk1 PCB Sterling valve stereo power amp to over 45 watts per channel from our KT88 push-pull model.
The Sterling range is our entry level range, however despite being affordable. Most audiophiles know that the best amplifiers have no “sound” of their own, The Sterling’s do just that, producing fast, tight transparent and clean with a beautiful inky blackness where it counts. No bloated bass or “tinny top end”
All of the Sterling amplifiers are punchy and certainly feel like they are truly capable of working with a wide range of loudspeakers.

Where possible we avoid the use of Chinese components. These Pentode based amplifiers use unique ultra-linear circuits and of course our own output transformers. See the tabs below for list of amplifiers and options to suit your needs

Description
Audion Sterling amplifiers come with a wide range of options, starting with our Mk1 printed circuit board EL34 stereo amplifier right up to our Anniversary KT88 Mono-block Power amplifiers and represent our entry level models.
The range consists of 12 different variations of the Sterling, with power outputs from 12 – 45 watts and 4 different circuit topologies.
The hard wired (Air Wired) 30th Anniversary amplifiers are wired point to point. All of of our amplifiers have a volume control on the front which negates the need for a pre-amplifier in most cases. Our stereo integrated power amplifiers even have a 5 stereo channel passive pre-amplifier built in so you can use up to 5 line level inputs. These amps even have an un-attenuated output for feeding directly to a tape recorder or active sub-woofer or even to another amp for bi-amping. All of our single ended designs use a unique ultra-linear circuit and all Sterling power amps use a small amount of negative feedback to make the pentode valves work properly.
All of our Sterling models are auto-biased so do not need regular bias changing or complicated setting up.
Our amps are ideally suited to loudspeakers of 89db or greater efficiency except for our mono-block versions that can cope with lower efficiency.
Sonically, The Pentode valves used in the Sterling Range are robust and have a fantastic weight and clarity and the larger KT88, KT120 and KT150 are well suited to more difficult loads.
The chassis is made of military grade aluminium, with a durable black powder coated finish. The top plate and badge are finished with mirror polished stainless steel.

Upgrades & Classes

We offer 2 upgrade classes for the Sterling Range.. The upgrade classes are
Insignia Class which uses a full silver wired audio path, better graded components again in the audio path, tantalum resistors in the critical places and WBT binding posts.
Excelsior Class uses the same as above but with the inclusion of Teflon/Tin foil V-caps, Internal Solid Silver wired Interconnect, a 43 way Stepped attenuator, better power supply capacitors and WBT RCA’s.
There are options on both classes for solid silver wound secondaries or primaries and secondaries on the output transformer.

The Absolute Sound Read More
The Audion Sterling EL34 Anniversary Edition is a warm and dimensional-sounding amplifier with a potent lower midrange that does justice to the power range of an orchestra. It sang right out of the box and never misbehaved. Kudos to the Audion team for breathing new life into the venerable EL34 pentode. Every Sterling feels like it's punching well above its weight. So Good I bought one myself.
More seasoned audiophiles will know that good amplification – no matter the topology – has no sound of its own. Don’t expect the thick syrup or golden hues of sub-$1000 Chinese units. There is no sickly/heavy sauce here. Neither is there porridge bass. Who said tubes are no hopeless below the waist? (Fools!) This Audion is the healthiest of extra virgin olive oil: light, transparent, clean. And fast. It is unburdened by ponderous, labouring low frequencies or musical weight gain. Its talents lie in 1. the ability to drive a wide range of loudspeakers and 2. the beautification of music. Each combination a winner.
