Audion Select TVC1 transformer based volume control Passive Line level pre-amplifier is hand built with quality components. The chassis is black powder coated aluminium as is the base. The top plate is mirror finished stainless steel.
The Audion Select TVC1 passive line level pre-amplifier is a passive transformer based device with gain. Built with 5 line level inputs switched from the front panel, 2 line outputs and a direct un-switched unattenuated tape output. It is hard wired with a Seidan 23 way switch fitted and with a ground loop lift switch designed to stop any ground loops.. Being a passive pre-amplifier it will not add hum or tube noise to your current equipment. It also has a switch on the rear to offer an additional 6db of gain, effectively “A wire with gain”.
The black aluminium chassis is designed to match cosmetically to the rest of the Audion range in looks similar to the Audion Quattro pre-amp and sound quality, and having the same size and shape will fit in with other Audion equipment. It has been designed for users with stereo or monoblock amplifiers to add more inputs and volume control to their setup.
We are able to offer 23 way transformer steps and / or silver internal wiring, and with the option of WBT Nextgen RCA sockets.
Being a passive stage it will not alter your soundstage, but at the same time it will add up to 6db of gain which will allow micro details to come to the fore . In use it is absolutely invisible, with extreme depth even at very low levels. It brings recordings to life and places you directly in front of the performance
This model has been specifically designed to cosmetically and sonically match the Silver Night Special Edition power amplifier range which has the same gold fornt and matching highly polished knob.

Description
This Select TVC1 passive Line level pre-amplifier is a great match with our Anniversary power amplifiers and Premier Pre-amplifiers. It is also ideally matched with either of our ranges of Electron or Proton cables. This is an extremely good premium quality Transformer volume controlled passive pre-amplifier with the additional benefit of 6db gain. It can be used as a volume control / channel selector for any amplifier other than ours that does not have a volume control.
The TVC1’s transformer is quite a special transformer in as much as it uses micro winding techniques which are made with micro accurate tensioning which is the key to the sonic characteristics of this TVC which allows the TVC1 pre-amp to be extremely fast and capable of handling the most intricate and detailed musical passages. Outstanding performance, lightning quick response curves and terrific transparency
Our amplifiers generally use a high quality Alps volume control which is a variable resistor, which although very good is still a variable resistor which reduces the signal a small amount.
Our TVC, on the other hand, uses a transformer instead of a resistor to decrease voltage. A transformer takes a high-voltage, low-current signal and converts it into a low-voltage, higher current signal of essentially the same energy. This creates a decrease in voltage at lower volumes without sacrificing any of the signal’s energy (essential for micro detail retrieval. A TVC is designed to match the input impedance of a source (i.e., CD player) with the output impedance of the amplifier. By matching voltage and current without adding noise, etc. Because of this the tiny signal remains intact. This maximizes voltage transfer and presents a much easier load to your amp.
The TVC1 Select has 5 line level inputs as standard, 3 outputs and has a ground lift switch and ground binding post floated through the internal ground lift at the rear to assist in resolving grounding issues by floating the ground internally above mains ground.
The following is the step ratio from Position 1 to 23 with the +6db switch active.
Step 1 = -42db, – 38db -34db -32 db then -2db steps to 0 and then +3db and +6db at step 23 with +6db switch on.
Designed to work well below 10hz and above 100Khz. The output is at 50kohm so ideally suited for our power amp range. In fact measured at -1db down we achieved 9hz to 36khz.
