Audion Silver Night Anniversary DUO 300B/2A3 switchable hard wired stereo or stereo integrated power amplifier is from our intermediate level range which uses the well known 300B tubes or switchable to 2A3. These amplifiers are hand built and point to point hard wired (Air Wired©).
This Silver Night Anniversary DUO is different from other amplifiers as the user can switch between any 300B or any type 2A3 valve, obviously more careful choice of speaker is needed. Loudspeakers of 89db or better efficiency for 300B mode 95 db or better for the 2A3. Both stereo and stereo integrateds deliver 7 watts into 8 ohms from a 300B and 3.5 watts from a 2A3. Switching is simply done at the rear by swapping fuse positions and the heater voltages are self sensing within the amp. Valve/Tube rolling is easy as the amp is auto biased.

The Silver Night DUO is built with components sourced from Europe and the US. Where possible we avoid the use of any Chinese component. Our output transformers are wound in-house to our exacting standards and many of the components are either made by us or specifically for us. We use JJ 300B, also Electro Harmonix 2A3 Russian New old stock 6H23N as a driver and input tubes.

Description
The Silver Night DUO stereo and stereo Integrated amplifiers form part of the best known of the Audion products, and the ones that have won us most awards over the years.
The Audion Silver Night DUO is hand built and point to point hard wired (Air Wired©), using European and US parts. This triode based stereo amp uses no (zero) feedback in the design.
The Silver Night DUO delivers 8 or 4 watts per channel into 8 ohms and is best suited for use with loudspeakers of 989db or 95db or better efficiency depending on the valves that you are using at the time.
The DUO is a therefore a great amp to use with Horn loudspeakers as it has 2 additional power supply stages and very quiet at less than 1mV noise.
The hard wired (Air Wired) 30th Anniversary amplifiers are wired point to point. All of of our amplifiers have a volume control on the front which negates the need for a pre-amplifier in most cases. Our stereo integrated power amplifiers even have a 5 stereo channel passive pre-amplifier built in so you can use up to 5 line level inputs. These amps even have an un-attenuated output for feeding directly to a tape recorder or active sub-woofer or even to another amp for bi-amping. All of our single ended designs use a unique ultra-linear circuit and all Sterling power amps use a small amount of negative feedback to make the pentode valves work properly.
All of our Silver Night models are auto-biased so do not need regular bias changing or complicated setting up.
Sonically, The Triode valves used in the DUO have subtleties and finesse and have a fantastic weight, clarity and timbre.
The chassis is made of military grade aluminium, with a durable black powder coated finish. The top plate and badge are finished with mirror polished stainless steel.

Insignia Class which uses a full silver wired audio path, better graded components again in the audio path, tantalum resistors in the critical places and WBT binding posts.
Excelsior Class uses the same as above but with the inclusion of Teflon/Tin foil V-caps, Internal Solid Silver wired Interconnect, a 43 way Stepped attenuator, better power supply capacitors and WBT RCA’s.
Signature Reference uses the same as the Excelsior class but comes with fully silver wired audio and ground paths, silver foil in oil capacitors, solid silver wound output transformers, silver RCA’s and Binding posts,
There are options on both Insignia and Excelsior classes for solid silver wound secondaries or primaries and secondaries on the output transformer.

Audion Sterling amplifiers come with a wide range of options, starting with our Mk1 printed circuit board EL34 stereo amplifier right up to our Anniversary KT88 Mono-block Power amplifiers and represent our entry level models.
The range consists of 12 different variations of the Sterling, with power outputs from 12 – 45 watts and 4 different circuit topologies.

The Audion Sterling EL34 Anniversary Edition is a warm and dimensional-sounding amplifier with a potent lower midrange that does justice to the power range of an orchestra. It sang right out of the box and never misbehaved. Kudos to the Audion team for breathing new life into the venerable EL34 pentode. Every Sterling feels like it's punching well above its weight. So Good I bought one myself.
More seasoned audiophiles will know that good amplification – no matter the topology – has no sound of its own. Don’t expect the thick syrup or golden hues of sub-$1000 Chinese units. There is no sickly/heavy sauce here. Neither is there porridge bass. Who said tubes are no hopeless below the waist? (Fools!) This Audion is the healthiest of extra virgin olive oil: light, transparent, clean. And fast. It is unburdened by ponderous, labouring low frequencies or musical weight gain. Its talents lie in 1. the ability to drive a wide range of loudspeakers and 2. the beautification of music. Each combination a winner.
